Dear Student Parents/Guardians:

How quickly the summer months pass!  We hope you have had the opportunity to enjoy time with family and friends.  This letter includes important information related to the Back to School Celebration of Learning & Orientation for the 2013-14 school year.  The goals for the orientation activities are to create a welcoming, safe and supportive environment for our parents and students and provide the opportunity to learn more about the SMS experience.  The Back to School Celebration is scheduled to take place on Monday, August 26, 2013.  Please plan to attend this very important event.  The schedule is provided below:

6th Grade Schedule
7th Grade Schedule
8th Grade Schedule
3:45-4:30 p.m.,   Complete “to do” checklist in multi-purpose room (PE clothes, lunch tickets, yearbook volunteer registration etc…)

4:30-5:00p.m.,    Students & Parents meet with START advisor (General Information, Schedules/Lockers, etc.)

 5:05 –6:00 p.m.,  Attend a Team Presentation w/ teachers in the 6th grade hallway.

5:40-6:00 p.m.  Parents/Students:   visit encore teachers and finalize checklist items

3:45-4:30 p.m.,   Complete “to do” checklist in multi-purpose room (PE clothes, lunch tickets, yearbook sign-up, volunteer registration etc…)

4:30-5:00p.m.,    Students & Parents meet with START advisor (General Information., Schedules/Lockers, etc.)

5:05-5:20 p.m.
7th grade parents: attend a Team Presentation w/ teachers in the gym

5:25-5:40 p.m.
7th grade parents:  visit encore teachers and finalize checklist items

5:45-6:00 p.m.
Open House Format, meet and greet teachers in their classrooms if you haven’t already done so.
Finish up “to do” checklist items

***Note: All 7th & 8th gr. students may attend a “Mix it up” activity with a DJ on the patio outside the commons from 5:00-5:45 p.m.

We look forward to seeing you at this very important activity. The Spearfish Middle School Community is excited to work with you this coming year.   Please go to the school website and click on the “Back to School” link to download the following forms you will need to bring completed to the Back to School Celebration/Orientation.   Forms 1) Technology use,  2) Parent Permission, 3) Emergency School Closing & 4) Health Services Info.  There are other important documents for your reference (supply list, back to school checklist, FERPA etc…) included on the website.  We only need the FOUR documents signed and returned.  You may also stop by the office to pick up a packet of forms beginning August 12 from 8-4 p.m.  Enclosed, you will find the school supply list.   Enjoy the remaining days of summer.

On or about August 16th, you will receive your child's classroom/team placement and information related to the back to school celebration.
