Weekly Spartan Blog, September 16-20, 2013

Spartan PRIDE
Supporting our school community core values.

How is it that time passes so quickly?  We're already into the 2nd half of September.  We are looking forward to the the first enrichment block during FLEX time.  The registration for the first 2 FLEX time enrichment blocks is scheduled for September 25-October 1st.  The first three-week block starts on Monday, October 7th.  We will have 20+ enrichment classes for students to choose from.  They will be asked to identify their top three choices.  They will be placed one of their top three based on space and availability.  Enrichment classes will include such topics as engineering fun, book clubs, sports skills, technology, photography and much more.  Students who are in need of additional time and support will be required to go to reteach/support time when assigned in place of enrichment.  This may be for one or more days during the enrichment block.

Parents as Partners Meeting Schedule for Monday, September 16th (6-7 p.m.)

Our first Parents as Partners Meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 16th from 6-7 p.m. in the middle school library.   Please consider joining us for the 1st Parents as Partners Meeting of the school year.   It is a no pressure environment where we learn from one another and discuss topics that are relevant to parents and teachers.

Our plan for Monday night includes the following:
•    A discussion/feedback regarding the start of the school year and the Back to School Celebration/Open House.
•    6th grade transition.
•    The  new schedule at SMS.
•    We'll discuss parent involvement in middle school. (volunteer sign lists)
•    “How not to talk to your kid,” the inverse power of praise article.

We look forward to seeing you Monday night!

Lunch Program Ala carte is a new feature students love!  (Check you balance; it costs extra!)

Lunchtime Solutions does an excellent job of providing breakfast and lunch for our students.  Students get five different choices everyday; two hot choices, a sub sandwich, a specialty salad or a fruit and yogurt plate.  Lunch program requirements include:  1) Every student lunch must include an entree’ with fruits and veggies.  2) There is fresh fruit and veggies available to all students who have purchased a lunch at no charge.  They can eat as much of the fruits and veggies as they would like.  3) Every student including free and reduced must have money in their lunch account to be able to purchase extra items.  This includes extra milk, another entrée, or food items on the ala carte (cookies, fruit roll-ups, jerky, chips, corn nuts, water and juice).  All of the extra items do cost more money.    Please discuss these changes with your student.  If you have any questions please call the middle school at 717-1215.

Important Information:  You'll be getting a letter in the mail soon!
You will be receiving the 2012-13 D-Step State testing results in reading and math.  If you have questions regarding the scores, please feel free to contact me.

Remodel Project at the middle school- See the letter detailing the project.  It is scheduled to begin early to mid-October.
