Weekly Spartan Blog: November 17-21, 2014

Spartan PRIDE
Supporting our school community core values.

Dear SMS Supporters:

It is hard to believe we are closing in on the end of the first trimester.  We are planning a 1st Trimester Celebration on Friday, November 21st.  Activities will include a grade level START Time Tug of War competition.   Additionally, students who have no behavior referrals for the first trimester will be included in a drawing for prizes.

Our goal is to see every student learning every day.  I will share grade distribution per grade level and challenge students to be their best everyday.  START Time Advisors work with students to set goals for success.  This will continue throughout the year.  You are welcome to attend the End of Trimester Celebration on Friday November 21st at 8:25 a.m.

AdvancEd School System Review:  November 17-19, 2014

A team of professionals will conduct interviews, classroom observations, review artifacts and listen to presentations over the next few days to learn more about how our school district in meeting the standards of quality defined in the AdvancED School Improvement Framework.

Accreditation is a voluntary method of quality assurance developed more than 100 years ago by universities and k-12 schools.  It was designed primarily to distinguish schools adhering to a set of educational standards.    While accreditation is a set of rigorous protocols and research-based processes for evaluating an institution’s organizational effectiveness, it is far more than that.

The process of accreditation also examines the whole institution including the programs, the cultural context, and the community of stakeholders.  The goal is to see how well the parts work together to meet the needs of students.

Done well, the accreditation process provides an opportunity positively impact the school culture and build true capacity to improve student learning and make continuous school improvement a reality.
