Good Evening,

We have a fantastic first week back to school in the New Year.  Please take a moment to visit with your child about their goals for the new year.  This is a great opportunity reflect on success, challenges and opportunities to adjust personal and academic goals.  The winter activities season is underway.  Boys Basketball, Drama Club and Dance have excellent participation numbers.  Science Olympiad will begin next month.

8th Grade Transition to High School Day:  Tuesday, Jan. 13 (two sessions:  8:30-9:15 and 9:30-10:15)  Parents may attend either session in the HS auditorium to learn about the registration process.

Student are preparing the 2nd Annual Dodge Ball Tournament.  This is a completely optional event for students that will take place in the morning before school.  If you would like to donate prizes or refreshments, please drop them by the office prior to January 27th.  A schedule of games will be posted on or before Friday, January 23rd.  You are welcome come and watch a friendly competition and school community event!

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday for Parent Teacher Conferences.

Parent Teacher Conferences:  Scheduled for Wednesday, January 14 between 3:45-7:00 p.m.
  • 7th and 8th Grade:  Arena Style in individual teacher classrooms
  • 6th Grade:  Pre-scheduled with teaching team

1)     School Board Recognition Week, Jan. 12-16

2)     8th Grade Transition to HS, Tuesday, Jan. 13 (two sessions:  8:30-9:15 and 9:30-10:15)

3)     Daily Pledge of Allegiance:  As the New Year begins, re-establish the routine of reciting the pledge on a daily basis.   

5)      Optional STAR Reading & Math Winter Testing Window, Jan. 5-19, 2015

6)      Block 4:  February 3-24 (8th band/choir included)
1/16 at 8 a.m. : Block 4 Course Descriptions Due
1/20-1/23: Register for Block 4
2/3: Beginning of Block 4
2/24: End of Block 4

7)      Technology Request Deadline:  February 1st, the on-line form to be completed for each request can be found at http://www.spearfish.k12.sd.us/District/Forms/dist_forms.html and is in bold white type and listed as Technology Requests Form.  These must be completed by February 1. None will be accepted after that date.  No software requests will be accepted. That is a curriculum item.

8)     Building Capital Outlay Requests:  Deadline is March 1st.  You must complete the Purchase Order form with appropriate information for your request to be considered.  (Request must be depreciable items (desks, equipment etc…, including software).

10)   Newspapers in Education: Pick up your papers on Wednesday morning from the Lounge.

11)  Communicate alignment of lesson plans to the curriculum standards on your teacher web pages. -This is tied to the K12 accreditation process.
